A two-part cultural textile and sewing experience by Stitch Society and Rhythms & Roots.

Roots & Threads is a hands-on creative workshop where participants design their own custom fabric, then return to transform it into a finished handmade piece.

This experience blends fabric design, cultural storytelling, sewing, creativity, and self-expression. Participants will explore African-inspired patterns, shapes, symbols, and colors while creating a fabric design that reflects their own story, rhythm, and roots.

Part 1: Print Your Story
Participants will design and paint their own fabric using fabric paint, stamps, stencils, shapes, and creative prompts inspired by culture, movement, identity, and storytelling.

Part 2: Sew Your Creation
After the fabric has dried and cured, participants will return to sew their printed fabric into a finished beginner-friendly project.

Project options may include:
Tote bag
Headwrap or scarf
Sash or fabric banner

No sewing experience is required. Materials and basic equipment are included.

This workshop is beginner-friendly and open to youth, adults, and families. Participants will leave with a handmade item and a deeper connection to culture, creativity, and community.
